How to prepare for your NRP recertification in one week
You are not going to reread the entire NRP textbook this week, and you don't need to. Recertification isn't testing whether you can recite the manual. It's testing whether the algorithm is automatic enough to run under pressure. That's a different kind of studying, and it fits into a week of actual shifts if you sequence it right.

Walk the algorithm until it's boring
Go through the full flowchart repeatedly, not reading it once carefully, but running it enough times that the decision points stop requiring conscious recall. Boring is the goal; boring means automatic.

Lock in the numbers
Epinephrine dose and route, volume expander bolus, PPV starting settings, compression ratio, preductal SpO₂ targets by minute. These are the facts most likely to blank under stress, and the ones a calculator can drill fastest.

Drill flashcards in short bursts
Three or four 10-minute sessions beat one long session: high-yield spaced repetition between patients, not a single evening marathon.

Run full practice cases
This is where algorithm knowledge and dosing facts have to work together under a clock. If a case exposes a gap, that's the most efficient studying you'll do all week: it tells you exactly where to focus next.

Sit a timed practice exam
Simulate real exam conditions once, without pausing to look things up. The goal isn't a perfect score. It's finding out what you'd actually miss on test day, while you still have a day to fix it.

Review the misses, then stop
Go back only to what the practice exam flagged. Resist the urge to re-study everything: targeted review of known gaps beats a broad last-minute reread.
The realistic version of this week
You have shifts. You're tired between them. This plan is built around 20 to 40 minutes a day, not hours. The point isn't volume, it's doing the right kind of studying (retrieval and application) instead of the easy kind (rereading).
